Kerberos page appears in confusing mix of languages

When I open the page https://help.ubuntu.com/16.04/serverguide/kerberos.html in Firefox with German locale, it appears in a wild mix of German and English. This includes the controls ("Search" but "Zurück/Weiter") but more importantly the content, where it leads to inconsistencies like text referring to domain EXAMPLE.COM but code examples containing domain BEISPIEL.DE .
The page lacks an option to request the original unlocalized English page.

That serverguide you looked at is for xenial, our oldest LTS release. We have since updated it to a new format for Focal, our latest LTS release, and it can be seen here:

Honestly, I don't know about internationalization and if it was done for that page. I'm just adding this comment here to show you that there is new content, updated for the latest LTS.

If the i18n problem you described is something trivial to fix, maybe it can be done, but otherwise we are not updating the old xenial serverguide anymore.

I'll leave this bug open for others to chime in specifically on the i18n problem, if someone knows something about how it was implemented back then.

German appears as a mix because the translations are incomplete. (It appears to be about 55% translated with 2203 strings remaining to translate.)

For the years and years that I took care of this, and sent e-mail reminders to the translation team, I never ever got any feedback about it.

Anyway, the only teams that seemed to keep up where French, Russian, and one or two that I forget now.

Note that the new format is published only in U.S. English.
The 18.04 LTS serverguide dropped publication of other languages many months ago, in preparation for this one language 20.04 publication.

Yes, we either did not backport the cool per page language change thing we did for desktop or never did it for serverguide.

But yes, this:

is a mistake and should have been EXAMPLE.COM

Unfortunately, these type issues are common. The translator did not know to not translate the EXAMPLE.COM part.

This will not be fixed.

@Tilman: Just want to add: The language used when displaying that page has nothing to do with your locale; it's a Firefox setting. If you want to view the original version of the page, you can go to "Preferences" -> "Language and Appearance" -> "Choose your preferred language for displaying pages" and (temporarily) choose English.

Thanks. I totally understand you don't want to fix an obsolescent page. I did't check the corresponding pages for the newer releases as the system I was looking this up for is actually still running Xenial.

I would have offered my help for improving the German translation but if it is English only going forward then that's just as well. I prefer the English original to a bumpy German translation any time, if you get my French. :-)
