Bug Description

When searching for "lxd documentation" on duckduckgo.com, the readthedocs site of LXD (which is the official LXD documentation website) is nowhere to be found in the top results. Other sites are top, such as this one (number 1 top result): https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/serverguide/lxd.html

However this page https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/serverguide/lxd.html doesn't contain a link to readthedocs, therefore someone who searches with duckduckgo will never reach readthedocs.

You can fix this, by linking to readthedocs from https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/serverguide/lxd.html . LXD is a Canonical project itself.

I filed this bug to the LXD team itself, and they asked me to tell you. Here: https://github.com/lxc/lxd/issues/5358

It is? Says who? It doesn't appear to be a Canonical owned site. Myself, I've never heard of it.

Really? (and I see, I read the issue myself.) So a Canonical employee in Montreal asked you to deal with this side of the issue yourself.

Honestly, I give up.

Ok, if you think that the official documentation is somewhere else, you can point your page there. What you're doing now is pointing nowhere. A DDG user (i.e. a privacy-caring individual) will have a hard time reaching the official documentation.

Yes, really! Look: "My recommendation would be to follow the link to report a bug with it at the bottom of the page, which sends you to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/serverguide" - Which is exactly what I did!!

So what am I doing wrong exactly?

In your document (I assume it's you who wrote it) you're pointing to all sorts of places as "excellent documentation for LXD" except the REALLY excellent documentation which is on readthedocs.

You're the same company, shouldn't you be working for the success of your company's projects? I wonder.

Hi,

I'm the LXD project leader and yes, our official documentation is at https://lxd.readthedocs.org.

LXD is indeed a Canonical sponsored project with the LXD team working for Canonical, that does not however mean that we have commit access to Ubuntu documentation and the normal process to file an issue with the current server guide is here on Launchpad.

There are other Canonical projects which have documentation on read-the-docs, cloud-init is one such example which comes to mind, nothing weird there either.

@Alexander: I am a volunteer. I attempt to maintain and publish the Ubuntu Severguide. I did not write the LXD chapter of the server guide.

@Doug ok, I see. Do you think someone will fix the LXD chapter to include the official documentation of LXD at readthedocs?
