"Clear" option in write_textfield is broken in OS X

Bug Description
OS X uses command-a to select all text so the workaround for clear() which uses control-a breaks. One option would be to attempt to detect if the user is running os x. Another option may be to run control-a, del before command-a del which would be a noop in os x, though I don't have a windows/linux machine handy to confirm the behavior.
