Bug Description

This bug is discussed here http://elementaryos.org/answers/i-have-problem-with-scrath-text-editor
But I could not find a bug ticket here on launchpad so i decided to create one.

Description:
When attempting to launch the application scratch-text-editor from UI nothing happens. No error messages no windows nothing indicating interaction at all. When attempting to launch scratch-text-editor from terminal two error messages appear

[_LOG_LEVEL_FATAL 14:33:18.816186] [GLib-GIO] (sic.)Tidsgränsen uppnåddes
[_LOG_LEVEL_FATAL 14:33:18.816215] Scratch will not function properly.

Loose translation of first error message is "Timeout reached".

Complete output from terminal

~$ scratch-text-editor
[_LOG_LEVEL_INFO 14:32:53.791186] Application.vala:77: Scratch version: 2.0.2
[_LOG_LEVEL_INFO 14:32:53.791222] Application.vala:79: Kernel version: 3.2.0-51-generic
[_LOG_LEVEL_DEBUG 14:32:53.794262] Settings.vala:158: Loading settings from schema 'org.pantheon.scratch.saved-state'
[_LOG_LEVEL_DEBUG 14:32:53.794536] Settings.vala:158: Loading settings from schema 'org.pantheon.scratch.settings'
[_LOG_LEVEL_DEBUG 14:32:53.795098] Settings.vala:158: Loading settings from schema 'org.pantheon.scratch.services'
[_LOG_LEVEL_FATAL 14:33:18.816186] [GLib-GIO] Tidsgränsen uppnåddes
[_LOG_LEVEL_FATAL 14:33:18.816215] Scratch will not function properly.

This does not happen when Scratch is launched as root. When launched as root the application behaves as expected.

There is already a bug open for this: https://bugs.launchpad.net/scratch/+bug/1297422

I just installed e-OS today and ran into this problem. I don't know if it happened after software-update because I didn't run scratch before doing a software-update.

Allright, didn't find it when searching for a solution. Good that you pointed it out! Adding this as a dup of 1297422.

I don't think it worked before software-update. I think I tried to open a txt-file or something before running the updater and it didn't start then either. Didn't think much of it then and updated elementary OS. I could test that on a VM and report back.

I just updated again today and Scratch opened correctly! This bug seems to be fixed at least for me.

Can also confirm that it works now. Seams the problem lay with GIO and not Scratch after all. Well that's great! I'll be closing this as the problem no longer occurs with the correct version of GIO installed.
