Your error.log file doesn't show anything wrong. Could you attach the other two files?

To find SchoolTool's version run this command in a terminal (and paste the output here):

$ apt-cache policy schooltool

Try (alternative to get SchoolTool's version):

$ dpkg -s schooltool

Are you just testing/trying SchoolTool or is this a "production" server? What version of Ubuntu are you running? Out of curiosity, how much RAM do you have in this server?

I may be wrong, but in my opinion, the issue is that your server has not enough RAM, and more importantly no swap space (the segmentation fault you reported is also very suspicious). I've seen processes dying with memory errors in this scenario. I recommend you to either upgrade your RAM or test using another approach (like a local virtual machine).

To uninstall SchoolTool you can:

$ sudo apt-get purge schooltool

Some directories will not be removed (because they contain data), but if you don't have important data in the instance and you want to start completely clean again, you can remove them manually:

$ sudo rm -rf /var/lib/schooltool/
$ sudo rm -rf /var/log/schooltool/
$ sudo rm -rf /var/run/schooltool/
$ sudo rm -rf /etc/schooltool

Then you can install again:

$ sudo apt-get install schooltool
