Something is wrong, the database server (zeo) is not running.

Try

$ sudo service schooltool stop
$ sudo service schooltool start

All four processes should be RUNNING.

$ sudo service schooltool status
schooltool RUNNING pid 20365, uptime 0:00:16
services:celery_report RUNNING pid 20364, uptime 0:00:16
services:redis RUNNING pid 20362, uptime 0:00:16
services:zeo RUNNING pid 20363, uptime 0:00:16

If not, look at the end of zeo.log, it should look something like this:

$ tail /var/log/schooltool/zeo.log
------
2014-06-09T16:31:08 INFO ZEO.runzeo (20363) opening storage '1' using FileStorage
------
2014-06-09T16:31:08 INFO ZEO.StorageServer StorageServer created RW with storages: 1:RW:/var/lib/schooltool/Data.fs
------
2014-06-09T16:31:08 INFO ZEO.zrpc (20363) listening on /var/run/schooltool/zeo.sock
------
2014-06-09T16:31:20 INFO ZEO.StorageServer new connection : <ManagedServerConnection >

  • zeo.log Edit (205.8 KiB, application/octet-stream; name="zeo.log")

I tried stopping and starting the service as you suggested it still did not
work. When I checked the status of schooltool it said that the zeo service
was fatal and had exited to quickly. I have attached a copy of the zeo log
to see if you can tell me why this is happening. I have a lot of data
already in the database and I just wanted access to the new functions that
are curently available in version 2.8. Please advise
