Bug Description

I'm running Fedora 10.

I've tried this in both Firefox and Thunderbird with the same results though I will explain what's happening in TBird.

When I first open Thunderbird and open the Sameplace client, I cannot connect to any services. I've tried Gmail, Jabber and Twitter. Even if I go through the account creation wizard it doesn't work. I get no errors. After I enter the config I click next and it just sits there with the progress bar as though it's attempting to contact the server but it never comes back. I can still click Back or Cancel.

I've tried looking at a tcpdump and it definitely contacts the server but goes no further.

As I said, this happens for all types of accounts. If I leave it for a while and come back to it often it will work later on but there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to what causes it. I use all the same settings. Even if I have an account that is working it won't be able to connect if I restart Thunderbird.

The times I have connected it stays connected and functions perfectly well.

I've checked the xmpp log and there are no erros in there. When I clicked rerport a bug, there was no information in the "Please include the following information:" box. I'm not sure if that's significant or not.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I have also noticed that there are no errors reported in the Error Console.

Also CPU usage skyrockets to about %70 while it sits there spinning it's wheels.

I seem to have fixed it. I had some old proxy information configured in Thunderbird. It was set to Direct Connect so it was not set to use the proxy but once I deleted all the proxy information it's working every time, even after a restart of Thunderbird.
