When trying to create an account on sameplace for gmail it hangs

cwhittl, both I and X-Pilot tried to reproduce this with no success. Maybe a proxy is blocking you?

I don't think there was a proxy at the place I was using it... I also tried it at home which has no proxy and nothing happened.. But before when I was using FF2 and whatever version of Sameplace it worked fine at that location... but since I upgraded to 3 and the newest I've not been able to use it.... I've removed both sameplace and xmp and reinstalled but still no dice....

I just checked Twitter, and sameplace and they both hang too... so it's not just limited to gmail..

I completely uninstalled Firefox (any trace of it and deleted the folders/application data) reinstalled 3 from the newest file on the site and then installed sameplace from the sameplace site... It worked for a couple of days and then it started all over again... I really like sameplace but I'm afraid I'll have to switch so some process hog like yoono or extremely limited like gtalk widget to IM.. please help!

Try Help->Save XMPP Log. Does anything appear in the saved file? There have been cases where the release branch did not report the log. If that happens, please try with devel.

This may be a completely different issue than the ones experienced earlier. :-(

I installed dev version and nothing is showing up in the log from gmail or twitter.. sorry....

One word about Twitter: it's not available now due Twitter's overload - see bug#242486

No biggie... I just thought it might have be related to the gmail issue... I have a twitter widget on my igoogle anyways...

It seems that this was indeed related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/sameplace/+bug/242098.

I've just pushed a fairly big change to the development branch of xmpp4moz, basically rewriting the connection stage from scratch to suit Firefox3+talk.google.com connection oddities. It would be great if you could try that and let us know if the behaviour you saw disappeared.
