Bug Description

Sorry I couldn't report this earlier, but I wanted to be absolutely certain it wasn't my imagination playing games with me.

I noticed that the door at the end of the long boardwalk from Crater Island to the Main Dome Island doesn't ever transition properly no matter which way you walk through it. Clicking to enter or exit the Great Golden Dome through this door just pops the player immediately to the next slide without the nice fade-in transition.

This seems to cause additional trouble beyond just a missing transition. I discovered the above problem after originally noticing an inconsistency with the tram at Crater Island. Walking through the strangely behaving door will teleport the tram back to Plateau Island.

First make sure that the tram is docked behind Ghenn's pentagonal laboratory. Then walk down the boardwalk between the islands and through the problematic door described above and turn around and walk straight back to the office and back to the tram. I'm quite certain that the tram won't be there when you return after walking through the problematic door. Note that you can also see the tram dock from the boardwalk -- see the screenshots for more detail.

I'm not absolutely certain, but this may affect the other trams and carts that link the islands.

I'm almost certain this is a bug in Riven's scripts, not in Riven X. Nonetheless, I've actually taking the policy of fixing obvious Riven bugs by patching where necessary, so I will try to address this.

The missing transition is simply because Riven's script doesn't queue one up for that card. It's a remnant of the CD edition, which did a disc swap at that location in the game. That's also pretty easy to fix.

Hmm... interesting. I'm surprised I didn't notice this when I first played Riven. Thanks for the behind-the-scenes explanation.

I've confirmed that that card resets not only the boiler island maglev, but also the garden island maglev.

Are there any other cards that behave like this? They might be worth looking at more closely.

Unlike the lack of a fading transition, I think the "teleporting" trams may well be intentional, and not just because of the CD change... perhaps the implication is that Gehn is using them, or someone else. Otherwise, I see no reason that these script lines would have been inserted.

I finally got Riven and installed it with Riven X, only to find my progress in the game impeded by the same issue as above: the tram isn't at Crater Island anymore, which means (as far as I know) I can't proceed in the game. Trying a circuitous route back to Crater Island didn't work. I'm at a loss as to how to trigger the tram to reset to behind Gehn's lab. Is there a fix in-game, or does it have to be patched?
