Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When opening rhythmbox for the first time through applications menu, it doesn't open but goes directly to the systray. As you mentionned close button should close, open button should open the program.

Let's say I want to listen to music, I need to open rhythmbox and then go to the systray to clic "show"
and then select a song (as it is now focused) before putting it back to the systray.

A normal behavior should be : open the program, choose your song to play and throw it to the systray.

Thank you for your bug report, it should open in the state you had when it has been closed, can you confirm it's what you get?

Changed in rhythmbox (Ubuntu):

Any update about this ?

This is paradoxical, Lucid (try to) bring many user experience improvements and this is clearly a regression to me.
AFAIK, this is even not the upstream behaviour. eg: a "vanilla" rhythmbox close when "close" is push and go into tray by just clicking on the Rhythmbox icon in the systray (and this behaviour is configurable).

(I subscribed the "Canonical User Experience and Design team" to this, sorry if I'm wrong)

I have added it to the Papercuts project. Personally, I can't verify if it is a papercut, but they may be able to help point us in the right direction.

I can reproduce this in Lucid running on my machine (all made from upgrades and updates) but I have been doing a lot of testing on clean builds and I know it wasn't there yesterday. Perhaps you could get someone else to verify?

In case of any confusion, my 'please verify' comment was directed at Nicolas, not you Seb, I know you are very busy!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a duplicate of bug 270206, so it is being marked as such. Please look at the other bug report to see if there is any missing information that you can provide, or to see if there is a workaround for the bug. Additionally, any further discussion regarding the bug should occur in the other report. Please continue to report any other bugs you may find.

This bug has become more easy to notice since the app-indicator work. Others on #ubuntu+1 also keep mentioning that they noticed this problem only now. But it is the same old bug. RB starts minimized to tray when previous session was minimized and closed from the menu.

I just tested from the last daily-live.

I confirm that rhythmbox remember its state: it opens in the state it was when it has been closed.
(this is bug 270206 )

But, there is another usability bug in this report:
close button should close, open button should open.

Well, why all apps BUT rhythmbox just close when I click the close button ?
I think this is just inconsistent.

There is no problem by default on a vanilla gnome (or on Karmic, Jaunty...).

However there is a kind a "workaround": in the status icon plugin settings, select "status icon always visible". This way the close button will just close rhythmbox but, unfortunately, minimizing to tray will not work anymore...

I think this is more likely to be a bug in the new "Indicator Applet" but I may be wrong.
