Yes, it can be reproduced.

[Steps]
- run rhythmbox in terminal
- add mms link in "Music -> New Internet Radio Station", in my case, input "mms://live.cri.cn/oldies/"
The link will appear in the Radio window.
- double-click on the newly added mms link
The error messages are displayed on the terminal. No sound.

The upstream developer report confirms this is a network issue - perhaps proxy associated?

I'm writing to confirm. I installed the gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad package and it worked. It's dependency libmms0 by itself didn't seem to do it; there must be some other dependencies that make this work. I'm running 9.10.

I'm also experiencing this behavior (ubuntu 9.10), but with a singular thing :
When launching Rhythmbox, if I try to read 'http://network.absoluteradio.co.uk/core/audio/ogg/live.pls?service=vcbb', it will
work. Then, if I try to listen to 'mms://stream.mosaiquefm.net/mosaique64k' it DOES work. Then, with 'mms://vipmms9.yacast.net/encoderrireetchansons', I get an error with 'Impossible de démarrer le pipeline de lecture', and then NO OTHER media (eg 1st tried web-radio, nor an mp3 song) works, unless I quit Rhythmbox and restart it.

Mplayer can play the following mms link,
mms://stream.mosaiquefm.net/mosaique64k
but Rhythmbox can't.

The connection info from mplayer might be useful.
As you can see, mplayer can't make the connection through the mms port 1755,
but the port 80 works.

Hello folks, there's no need to re re re confirm the issue, the status of the report is Triaged and it was sent upstream already, you can click on the "Does this bug affect you? " link but adding more and more comments for just saying me too or re confirm an already confirmed report doesn't make too much sense and only create more bug mail to read, thanks.

By installing some of the packages listed below Totem become able to play this streams:

mms://wms-trn-all.streaming.net.nz/trn-newstalk-zb-akl
mms://ac1.streaming.net.nz/tvworks-radiolive

But Rhythmbox 0.12.5 still not able to play them.

Is there any way to tell Rhythbox to use codecs from other application (as VLC or Totem) ?

As a workaround you can try entering the streams as rtsp URIs, e.g.
rtsp://wms-trn-all.streaming.net.nz/trn-newstalk-zb-akl

The given streams are actually RTSP streams, the MMS handler detects this and indicates to Rhythmbox that it should treat them as RTSP but RB does not handle this message (Totem does). Working on a patch for it.

My particular issue with the mms://fm967.telecomdatacenter.com.ar/fm967 stream was resolved by substituting "mms" with "http". It is a workaround and it is not the one above. (changing to "rtsp" did not work). This solved it in my particular case. Thank you!
