I cannot create playlists on my ipod, I have to use gtkpod. Is rhythmbox supposed to create playlists? It has very low support for ipods..

I'll add a bit of clarification. With my 4th G iPod, I am able to view and change playlists with rhythmbox in gutsy. However, none of the changes are saved. When I unplug the ipod, the playlists are just as they were before making the changes.

This bug re - occurs in Ubuntu 9.04 using version 12.0 of Rhythbox

Using an Ipod with Rhythmbox on 9.04 the playlist does not update correctly in that it disappears when the ipod is ejected and run remotely.

Using the same ipod on Ubuntu 8.04 (fully current on updates) the playlist does move correctly onto the ipod.

I am Using the following ipod
Model M92448
Version 2.1
Capacity 18.5 GB
S/N U234551MPNT
Format: Windows

playlists are not synced between iPod and Rhythmbox.
1. playlist: when moving a file to the playlist which is already on the
iPod I can see it there, but when syncing and removing the iPod it
looses the playlist and it's content.

2. copying a song/file from the musik folder directly to a iPod-playlist
does not work at all. it looks like it works, but when checking t he
playlist no song is there.

am on ubuntu 9.10,
rhythmbox 0.12.5,
8GB iPod (Model No: A1285 EMC No: 2287) listed in my ubuntu as ModelNumStr: xB745

I've never seen playlists work in ubuntu/rhythmbox. I was hopeful after hearing about updates to rhythmbox in ubuntu 10.04, but after trying playlist modifications I see nothing has changed in that department.

I can create a playlist and it saves, but no changes to the playlist are saved. Rearranging song order, adding/removing tracks, none work in rhythmbox on ubuntu 10.04.

Another strange thing is that songs that were already on the ipod (from iTunes on Windows) can be added to a playlist. New songs transferred via Rhythmbox will not write to any playlists on the ipod.
