Bug Description

I installed redshift freshly on a Kubuntu 10.04 system and started it with my position information. As I understand the program, it should turn the screen image to a different color temperature that changes during the day. Unfortunately, I see a screen flickering between the normal color temperature and a red-ish image. The color scheme changes about once a second.

Messages upon redshift start:

xxxx@pingu:~$ redshift -l ##.#####:#.#####
Gamma ramp size too small: 0
Starten der Änderungsmethode randr fehlgeschlagen.
Nächste Methode wird getestet …
Methode »vidmode« wird benutzt.

For some strange and unknown reason, redshift works now without flickering. I did nothing, it just happened.

I will install redshift on two more machines, and I will observe if something similar happens again.

When I first installed redshift, I saw the same behavior, with flickering erratically between the altered color temperature, and the normal color temperature. I saw no errors or warning messages at all, and the behavior occurred no matter how I started it, and with both color-changing methods. Then I restarted my computer, and after the restart, redshift seems to work fine, with no flicker. (That is, the problem seems to be gone completely.)

Just posting this in case you're interested.

Funny... same thing here. Flickering after install - rebooting helped - everything seems fine now. I am using Xubuntu 14.04.

I found that I just need to log off and then log back in to stop the flickering
