two new lines count as one in preview

Bug Description
the edit and preview screens are unnecessarily different. the preview feature becomes useless because it mushes up all the data which looked good in the edit screen
why is it that a single new line (enter key press) is not sufficient to place the next sentence below the previous one in the preview screen? can this be fixed?

I most markup languages only empty lines separate paragraphs and single line breaks don't separate text. You can use \\ if you really need to break at the end of a line.
