Bug Description

Would be useful to provide a method to link between different days in the notebook. For example, """As a result from the issues we had on [24/10/12], we have had to..."""

That's a nice idea. Something like this will definitely be added once time permits.

Changed in rednotebook:
status: New → Triaged
importance: Undecided → Wishlist

This would indeed be a cool feature. Could you consider the international standard format according to ISO [YYYY-MM-DD] for implementation, please! Otherwise for e.g. [07/02/12] it is not clear, which date is referred to (7th Feb, 2nd June, 12th Feb, ...).

Any movement on this? I would think that it might be simplest to link to a combination of date and hash tag. That way it can be placed back directly to where in the referred to day the entry being referred to exists.

For example:
Entry for June 6, 2019 (in a specified format)

Some text written a month ago about a #subject that we are going to refer back to.

New entry that contains the reference:

As we referred to @@date+#subject@here@ this decision was made.

I am not sure what sort of indicator would be used to indicate a link, and simply used @@ to define the start of the link, a single @ for the end of the link, and then another @ to include any text to that point as the highlighted text that becomes clickable.

I just think it would be quite useful

thanks

Well, apparently I can't edit the comment I wrote previously.... so I'll throw this additional thought in here...

Looked at the documentation for links and think that there is a way to deal with this... it could be that it's simply:

[some text date:///2019-06-06]

That would at least get it to the page for the date referred to. To get to some specific text, perhaps something referring to a hash tag with in that dates page:

[some text date:///2019-06-06#reference]

Might work?

Ok, apparently it isn't documented, and or whatever reason I had a version that said it was version 2.6 ... when the current version is 2.19... updated to 2.19 and lo and behold, there is linking there to refer to a previous entry. But only to the page for that entry.

Sorry for THREE comments - I would edit the previous ones if I could...

So my suggestion then would be to add the ability to point to a specific section of the entry. Using some indicator (my example above used #, but I think that might mess up the word cloud) so that it would be [2019-06-06*someword or phrase] where the word or phrase was prefaced (or surrounded by) the '*' or whatever was chosen.

Thanks for your indulgence in my ramblings

Jeff

I'm glad that we already implemented your wish to link between days :-) I feel linking to a specific part of the day is a little too specialized to be useful to many people.

Please note that we track newer issues at https://github.com/jendrikseipp/rednotebook/issues now.
