We need a legacy img for people still using RPi 1 type B/B+/A/A+, you can't just abandon us!

There is no intention to remove support for the pi1.

Can you clairify:

1: what image you are talking about? raspberry pi foundation or other? if raspberry pi foundation full release or nightly?
2: how exactly did you download and flash it? we have seen plenty of cases where people did something stupid like flash the image to a partition rather than the whole drive or flash the image without decompressing it first.

https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/
--> http://downloads.raspberrypi.org/raspbian_latest <--- the Download zip
option on the official download site, to download:
Release date:2015-05-05

https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/installation/installing-images/linux.md
---> dd bs=4M if=2015-05-05-raspbian-wheezy.img of=/dev/sdd <--- I did
install it to drive not partition

After loading the 2015/05/05 image to flash and on boot of RPi1 A+, I get
lots of cgroups errors and then "exec " errors, in my experience when
trying to run a 64bit binary in a 32bit environment you get "exec" errors,

SOOoo my conclusion was that the image had been built for the newer
architecture of the RPi 2 and not for the older RPi 1 instruction set.

Tell me where I'm mistaken, but I'm pretty sure that it's architecture
related. Just keep a legacy image for our old hardware, we're not ready to
throw them away yet :-)

PS. I had an image dated 2015/02/06, booted that, and smooth sailing ;-)

Kind Regards,
Willem Weideman

Is this still an issue?

All images from raspberrypi.org ought to work on all their devices.
If that's not the case, you should report it here: https://github.com/RPi-Distro/repo/issues
