Bug Description

Package: unar
Version: 1.1-2
Severity: normal

Using the simple test file found at http://www.maximumcompression.com/data/files/text-test.rar:

"unar text-test.rar" and "lsar text-test.rar" raise the error:

"text-test.rar: RAR
Archive parsing failed! (Unknown error.)"

unar on my Squeeze desktop happily extracted the above archive.

I'm running XBian. The unar package has come from the Raspbian repo.

reportbug output:

Ok, testing has revealed it doesn't happen on every system but we are struggling to narrow down the trigger.

If you are still experiancing the bug can you tell me exactly what kernel version you are using?

I can confirm that both lsar and unar are still unable to open RAR
files. I am using kernel version "3.12.7+".

The error message now reported is "unar: symbol lookup error: unar:
undefined symbol: main". s/unar/lsar/ when I try lsar.

Thanks for looking into this.

I tried to reproduce this and got some interesting result.

Raspbian Jessie on a Pi 2: works
Raspbian Jessie on a Pi 1B: works
Raspbian Wheezy on a Pi 1B: does NOT work

And the error I then got was the same as mjkaye:
unar: symbol lookup error: unar: undefined symbol: main

Then I tried 'unar --version' and got the same error, but the version on the Pi 2 does work and returns 'v1.8'

Then I downloaded Debian's armel version, extracted 'unar' and 'lsar' and copied that to /usr/bin/ on my Pi 1B.
Then did 'unar --version' and got 'Unknown option --version.' but not a crash and 'unar text-test.rar' completed successfully.
