Bug Description

Using latest raspbian (Linux raspberrypi 3.1.9+ #168 PREEMPT Sat Jul 14 18:56:31 BST 2012 armv6l GNU/Linux) boot fails if there is a KORG NanoKey USB MIDI Keyboard attached at boot time.

See http://twitpic.com/aduhdh and http://twitpic.com/aduhq8 (or atttached) for the boot messages. <- I can not connect to rPi in this condition so I had to take pictures of the screen ;)

Observed outcome:
---------------------------
If I have said USB device plugged in at boot time, booting becomes very slow (ca. 8 minutes until starting fake hwclock). After some time the boot screen is only updated line by line. Udevadm throws a timeout. After "[...] Setting preliminary keymap..." screen goes blank. rPi is not reachable via network (<- ethernet setup seems to fail as well).

Expected outcome:
--------------------------
If there is a problem with a USB device at boot time, booting should complete and networking should be startet nonetheless.

Please let me know, if you need further information for investigating this issue.

Per the thread on Raspberry Pi forums,

I see the same issue with my USB midi device (works fine when hot plugged, pi hangs/crashes when it's plugged in during reboot). It's a generic USB Midi device that shows up as "QinHeng Electronics CH345 MIDI adapter" when it's working correctly.

I am able to re-produce the same hang/crash if I do a udevadm info query on the device after it has been hot-plugged (and is working ok). I assume this is what occurs on reboot/startup....

[root@alarmpi ~]# udevadm --debug info -a -p $( udevadm info -q path -n /dev/snd/midiC0D0)

Some debug / dump info about USB devices attached is at http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/download/file.php?id=922

Is this still an issue with a recent kernel?

FYI, I was previously seeing this issue (as reported above), I finally got round to fully rebuilding my device with all the latest OS releases and am not longer seeing the issue. I'm able to boot (and reboot) with the MIDI device attached and so far no hangs.
