Bug Description

GoPro Hero 7 mounts successfully in ubuntu 19.10 and contents can be seen/copied with the file manager. Running Rapid Photo Downloader when the GoPro is already mounted causes it to unmount/mount repeatedly until RPD is closed or the GoPro is unplugged.

Can you please check to see if the bug still exists in Ubuntu 20.04? Thanks.

Yes, the behavior is the same in 20.04. I upgraded ubuntu from 19.10 to 20.04 (not a clean install), and reinstalled RPD. GoPro mounts fine and contents show in the file manager, but it goes in the unmount/mount cycle as soon as I run RPD.

What happens if you use Gnome Files (Nautilus) to unmount (eject) the GoPro before starting Rapid Photo Downloader? Is it automatically mounted again?

Yes, it mounts again automatically. I'm not able to unmount it so that it stays unmounted. So, it seems this is not a bug of Rapid Photo Downloader, right?

That's correct, yes. If you are able to, I'd try a live CD of Fedora 31 or 32, and try to replicate the behavior of being unable to unmount the GoPro in that environment. If you can unmount it, that would indicate it's unique to Debian / Ubuntu. If it automatically remounts in Fedora too, that likely indicates a more systemic problem, perhaps with Gnome GIO / GVFS.

The nature of the problem will help determine where and how you should file a bug report. It will also enrich the quality of the bug report, making it more likely to get fixed.

Gys van Zyl, do you have an update on the status of this problem?

No change in the behavior. I tried in ubuntu 20.04 and a Fedora 34 live CD. The GoPro remounts itself when unmounting. To be fair, I haven't done anything to try and fix the issue, as the workaround (copy using the file manager) is simple enough.
