Bug Description

If I run a diff on the original file and the copy made by RPD they often differ, especially but non exclusively on JPEG-files. I would expect the program to copy the file without any modification. If this is not a bug, please state in the documentation what exactly the program is doing as this is quite disturbing.

0.4.11. I have observed the bug in transfer from another folder on the same harddrive and from SD-card.
I'll try to find a picture not involving my family which reproduces the bug.

I saw this bug today with many pictures I copied from one partition to another on the same HDD. Attaching one of the images and its copy made by rapid photo downloader.

$ lsb_release -d
Description: Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS

$ rapid-photo-downloader --version
rapid-photo-downloader 0.4.10

I did not suspect or test this before. So potentially all of the thousands of images I have been copying using rapid photo downloader are not bit-accurate copies from my SD cards. And there's no way to go back. :-(

I assume you have automatic rotation of jpeg images turned on, which is why I'm marking this bug as a duplicate.

Rapid Photo Downloader 0.4.3 introduced a feature to losslessly rotate jpeg images using the program jpegtran. The version of jpegtran you have in Ubuntu 14.04 has a bug that causes the Makernote metadata to be copied incorrectly. So with the images you copied using
Rapid, you may not be able to view the Makernotes.

Due to the very serious nature of this bug in jpegtran I have totally removed the lossless rotate feature in Rapid Photo Downloader 0.9, and it will not be returning! If you still wish to use Rapid Photo Downloader, then I suggest turning off the auto-rotate feature.

Thanks for the speedy resolution, Damon. I verified that turning off auto rotate makes the downloaded file identical to its original. From your description it looks like the bug affected only jpeg files, which is some relief.
