Missing focus on dialogues

Bug Description

I notice that some dialogues aren't focussed, when they pop up.

Take the printing dialogue for example. After pressing "Strg+P" I have to focus the window manually to use "enter" to start printing.

The "save as" dialogue (Strg+Shift+S) also looses focus, when another tab is present. It has focus though, when a pdf is opened for the first time, while no other tabs exists.

This also applies for the "jump to" (Strg+J) dialogue. The pagenumber isn't selected.

Maybe it has something do to with my OS - Ubuntu Gnome 14.10 (mostly Gnome 3.12)

Hello sojusnik,

Thanks for taking the time to report this. I have tried to the reproduce the issue but have have failed so far using a Qt5 build running an up-to-date xfwm4 and a Qt4 build running OpenSUSE 13.2's kwin. Of course, neither of these platforms is Ubuntu 14.10 running Gnome...

Assuming you are using the default package which is based on Qt4, could you try to find out whether other applications based on Qt4 have similar issues? I suspect some kind of focus stealing prevention at work.

Best regards, Adam.

Hello Adam,

a Qt4 app¹ I'm using is QuiteRSS <https://quiterss.org/en> in which all
dialogues get focus when opened.

Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Hello again,

there is one more possibility I'd like to check before we need to fully enter debugging, i.e. I need to set up a VM running Ubuntu 14.10 GNOME. Do you use Benjamin Eltzner's packages [1] by chance? They are based on Qt5 instead of Qt4 which means comparison would need to be against other applications based on that version framework. If not, you could try updating to those packages to see if using Qt5 instead of the default Qt4 makes a difference. Thanks.

Best regards, Adam.

Hello!

Yes, I'm using Benjamin Eltzner's packages from https://launchpad.net/~b-eltzner/+archive/ubuntu/qpdfview?field.series_filter=utopic.

Hello again,

since I have a hard time finding a Qt5-based application in the official repository for comparison testing, could you try using the official Qt4-based builds from the repository (even though they are older versions) to if Qt4 VS Qt5 makes a difference so that I can narrow this down further? Thank you!

Best regards, Adam.

Marking as incomplete since we still need feedback on using the Qt4-based version from the dailydebs.

Finally works as expected under Ubuntu Gnome 15.04 with qpdfview 0.4.14.

Hello again,

thanks for keeping this report current! Since we did not change anything on how we handle dialogs, I find it safe to say that this was a problem with the toolkit integration/packaging and will therefore mark this as invalid.

Best regards, Adam.
