Bug Description

Until I did today's dist-upgrade audio worked fine for me in dapper through my external speakers (dunno if the internal was working or not). Now all sound playback is through the internal speakers and nothing comes through the external speakers.

Stock dual powermac G5. Will attach lspci -n -v output.

I installed Ubuntu 6.10 'Edgy Eft' beta PPC64 and the sound worked fine with the Live CD and after install, but somehwere along the line, I also lost the sound through my external speakers due to upgrades. I can hear the internal speaker, but there is an issue at startup with a couple of poping sounds that could be dangerous to any speakers.

I have a G5 single (PowerMac 9.1).

Tags may have been added, but it still isn't totally sorted with the latest packages. I am now getting sound again out of the external speakers, but the internal speaker still plays sound and is much louder than the external speakers output.

As with the previous poster, the sound is currently coming out both the internal speaker and the external one, with the external one being much quieter.

In the Gnome Volume Control, I can disable "Speakers" and then it no longer comes out the internal speakers. If I turn on "Line-Out", then the sound to the external speakers gets *much* louder and seems to be more like the volume I'd expect.

I get a kernel panic in libata with 2.6.20-2. I'll report that one seperately, and look at this again when I'm able.

Hi! It looks like this is actually a feature, rather than a bug.

In the Gnome volume controller, in the Switches tab, the "Speakers" checkbox controls whether the internal speakers are being used or not. If you plug something into the front headphone jack, alsa turns that off and turns on the Headphone checkbox automatically. The user can select both at the same time if (s)he wishes. These are all independant of plugging speakers into the back.

I suggest rejecting this bug.
