Bug Description
On my relatively new desktop, python-mode require 182ms.
This should be done only when a .py file is loaded for the first time or something to that effect.

Hmm, can't reproduce.
If py--imenu- create- index-p is `t', reset it to nil and try again.
Is current trunk in use? Please start from emacs -Q. Maybe send output of M-x report-emacs-bug RET.
