Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Firefox is crashing (without any error message that I can find) on every save as attempt.

1) Ubuntu 8.04 fully updated, with hardy-updates and hardy-backports enabled

2) 3.0+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1

3) What I expected:

Save as... dialog pops up (either from right click menu, or javascript auto-download), select location, file saves, continue browsing.

4) What happened instead

Save as... dialog pops up (as above), location is selected, file saves, firefox crashes without further notice.

Obviously more information is required, but this crash doesn't trigger apport so I'm not sure what to do next.

Thanks!
-Stuart

Also in Ubuntu 8.04 (full up to date, but without hardy-backports enabled), I tried saving this page from the right-click menu and from the file menu. Neither crashed Firefox.

Could it be something from hardy-backports?

Zephycat's helpful suggestion re backports got me thinking about other installed software: addons. I dug through my extensions one by one and found the culprit: Prism (extension version 0.2) is causing the crash. So I'm marking this as invalid for firefox and adding the reference to prism, since it's not a problem with firefox itself. Thanks!

(On Hardy 8.04) I can confirmt that when Prism is installed in Firefox, saving a page causes Firefox to crash with no error message.

Also, I noticed one thing that could be useful for debugging this. Normally, when you save a web page, there is an HTML file and a folder. When you save a web page on Firefox with Prism installed (I used the hardy start page), the folder is created and contains a CSS file and nothing else.

This seems to be similar to bug 236613. Please check if the instructions at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/prism/+bug/236613/comments/23 solves the problem. Thanks in advance.

Hi ,

i have also this bug (not only for Firefox but all applications in gnome when I do a save as) and as far for me only appears as i use Romanian language. Every time i change back to English all works perfectly. The problem is that my parents do not speak anything but Romanian so it is a real pain to force them to use a computer in English.

Also if you open a terminal and set the LANG env to "export LANG=ro_RO" , and start Firefox or whatsoever application and do a save as it will not crash anymore. If you use "export LANG=ro_RO.UTF-8" all save as from a gnome application will crash on any save as command. I think is a easy bug and maybe others can confirm/infirm if they use also other languages than English.

All the best
Adrian

Hi
I don't think this is the same bug, as this was specific to the prism
firefox add-in. I think you'll be better off opening a new one so that
it gets the attention it deserves!
