Mail sorted backwards by default

My mail gets sorted backwards by default: oldest mail is at the bottom, and new mails are appended at the beggining.
I've found this to be common in a couple of other applications, however, there is usually a way to revert this.

I read left-to-right and top-to-bottom, it's really annoying to try to read bottom-to-top, a simple setting to revert this would be nice and really simple to implement IMO.
