Seconded. I am looking for a replacement to mail-notification, which segfaults regularly, and popper is a good candidate. However, all my mail is stored locally so maildir/mbox checking is a must.

Hello.
Sorry, I don't get you both. You want to check your local mailboxes on new incoming mails. Where does the new locally stored mail come from in your usecases?

fetchmail. UNIX way, you know..

Also need this feature. I'm using offlineimap/mutt to store and read all my mail from multiple accounts locally.

mail-notification works well in Debian, but really sucks in Ubuntu due to libnotify/osd/indicator differences.
