Bug Description

Polly 0.92.1-1~244~natty1, Ubuntu 11.10 beta

On Twitter, I follow enough people that it isn't really useful for the messaging menu to show tweets -- there's new stuff every few minutes.

For people who follow few, it probably is useful to show tweets in the messaging menu.

Twitter users vary widely in how many people they follow. For that reason, I suggest that Polly's Notification preferences include options for whether streams are shown in the messaging menu.

As with notification bubbles, the usefulness of messaging menu entries will vary depending on the stream. I may want to see just messages, for example, or just messages and mentions.

Not sure how this should be presented in the Preferences window, though.

I'm currently thinking of a grid of radio buttons, which would be (type of message)x(nothing - bubbles - bubbles+indicator)

I think checkboxes would be better than radio buttons like "bubbles+indicator".

I actually meant (nothing - indicator - bubbles+indicator)

Either way I don't want to use checkboxes. This is less about toggling things on and off and more about selecting levels.

The grid was the first thing that came to my mind but it is inadequate because it wouldn't have the level interpretation vertically.

Checkboxes would be very nice. (And I would like to have a feature to only show notifications on mentions… ;-))

Restricting notifications to mentions is already available on Edit -> Preferences -> Notifications.

In fact, it is the default choice. I'm not sure why it's not the case for you.

Hmm. I see no such option in that dialog. The attachment shows a screenshot of what it looks like on my system, running 0.93.4-0~401~precise1 on Debian testing.

Ah, I thought you were referring only to tweets. Don't worry, 0.94 will allow more fine tuning.

I have to say you are the only user I ever met who considers mentions more important than DMs, though.

Oh. No. I just noticed that I misunterstood "messages" as "tweets in my timeline", not as "direct messages". (And that is what Polly does too, no notification for "normal" tweets at all). Thanks for the clarification!
