Bug Description

A lot of people are requesting support for identi.ca, Buzz, Facebook, etc. I will look into this after Twitter is 100% supported.

In my opinion (which might (or might not) be yours), adding services outside of the Twitter-type-service-area will A. bog it down B. provide a inconsistent experience - how do I post to my friends facebook wall using a application thats designed as a twitter client?

that's my two cents on the bug.

I agree. I probably will restrict to microblogging.

*please* add support for identica/statusnet. It has a twitter compatible api, so it should be simple enough (no oauth, though).

Why is this important?

Many people in the world of free software and open knowledge prefer a free & open plattform like identica, or would at least like to support it (I personally post to identica, and import everythign i post there to twitter). Being restricted to twitter may really hurt adoption among the floss crowd and I could imagine it might be something that would keep polly from becoming the default microblogging client on ubuntu & co.

Polly is awesome, I want to use it, and I really want to see it replace gwibber (which has horrible usability - details matter, folks...). The only thing holding me back is the lack of supprot for identi.ca...

So, please look into identica. Supporting alternative services is in the spirit of free software. Help to overcome service lockin!

thanks.

PS: I have written statusnet integration code before (in PHP though) and have good connections to some folks in the statusnet community (but I'm not involved in the project itself). If you have issues/questions, I might be able to help out.

Daniel, there is no need to ask for this. The discussion above involves the exclusion only of non-microblogging services like Facebook and Google+. indentica/statusnet *are* microblogging services, so they never left the plans.

conscioususer, thanks for the quick reply!

I understood that support for identica wasn't completely off the table, but got the impression from your comments elsewhere that it was low priority/postponed. I just wanted to express and explain my strong support for including identica soon, and offer the bit of help I might be able to give.

cheers, and keep up the good work!

Thanks for offering to help, Daniel.

The idea is working on other services after Twitter is fully supported, not because they are not important, but because until Twitter support is complete the code architecture and interface design will be unstable and will probably suffer a lot of changes. Even with extra help, I don't want to add extra points of change at this point.
