I would like to see an option where you can disable the labels when hovering over an icon

Indeed. Most app icons are distinct so showing the app name on hover is not helpful in most cases but just adds noise.

On the other hand (in conjunction with lp:1622161 multiple icons for each window of one app) it would be helpful to show the window titles instead of the app name.
