Plank titles do not match window titles

If I have a shortcut on the desktop Plank uses this as the window title not the actual window title.

Thunar shortcuts to webdav etc only show the first desktop name and not the connection.

Virtualbox shows the only desktop name irrespective of VM running.

This is pretty much the expected behavior since the corresponding desktop-file (if the pinned launcher can be matched correctly) provides the title and icon. The context menu will show you the windows titles if there is more than 1 window.

Is there any way to choose which desktop shortcut is used by plank?

No, plank is relying on bamf here which is choosing it.
