Bug Description

When I launch Google Chrome (google-chrome-unstable) from it's docked icon in Plank, it creates a separate icon at the other end of the dock for the window instance. It worked fine with Chromium (chromium-browser).

Plank version: 0.2.0.839
elementaryOS 0.2-luna beta2
Gala window manager

X.Org X Server 1.11.3
NVidia GTX 560 Ti
Pantheon

Sounds like a BAMF bug. What version of libbamf3-0 do you have installed?

$ apt-cache policy libbamf3-0

Now affects google-chrome-stable.

Possible workaround - find and edit google-chrome.desktop and insert a line:

Exec=/usr/bin/google-chrome-stable %U
+ StartupWMClass=Google-chrome-stable
Terminal=false

google-chrome.desktop should either be in "/usr/share/applications/" or "/<user>/home/.local/share/applications/"

Not sure if this has other consequences (e.g. when trying to launch a Chrome app) but seems to work so far.

Try to replace "Exec=/usr/bin/google-chrome-(un)stable" to "Exec=/usr/bin/google-chrome" in google-chrome.desktop

this also affects the new Opera (based on Chromium).

Since we are talking about two of the main browsers and since the majority of people probably use chrome on linux I wouldn't consider it a low importance bug.
