Bug Description

In Nautilus in Ubuntu 14.04 when you click on a folder and you mark it a bookmark - you are able to click on that bookmark and press rename and to give it another name. for example .local share application can become - application-local-share instead of just application and usr share application can become application-usr-share. This is much more useful then just having three directories called applications without knowing its "renamed" name.

In Places and Files it only shows the original name of the directory - not the renamed name of the bookmark. If the bookmark was not renamed then it will show the original name, but if it was the application should show the renamed name of the bookmark.

Also if you have a lot of bookmarks the program scrolls down very slowly and if you want to get to the ones on the bottom it takes a while. and if you want to get to the recent files then it is useless because every time you have to scroll down and it takes a long time. there should be a fast way of scrolling down or the recent documents should be on the top above the bookmarks, or bookmarks / places - should be in its own folder so that you can choose whether you want to see recent files or folders quickly and dont have to scroll through a few dozen bookmarks places before you get to the recent files.

Also for some reason the organization of the places / bookmarks is not alphabetical and does not match the way they are arranged in nautilus - possibly following first created to last created date organization schema - and really should be organized the same way as in nautilus as you can re-arange them there.

Otherwise this is a great add on thank you

1 - names of the renamed bookmarks from nautilus should be used
2 - order from nautilus bookmarks should be used
3 a faster way to scroll down or recent documents folder should be moved to the top or all places / bookmarks should be in its own folder next to recent documents so that you can choose bookmarks / places or recent files easily on the same page without having to scroll down

Hi Lili,
Thanks for the report. I am however not sure what you mean:
- If I rename a bookmark, its name is immediately updated in the drop-down list.
- For clarity reasons, recent files are sorted in chronological order. I am not sure why scrolling is slow for you, possibly a GTK issue on your system. The application creates a straightforward GTK menu. On the scrolling speed, I have no influence in any way.
- I will look into the sorting order of the bookmarks.Looking in the code, it should be sorted, but I will experiment a little.

Thanks once again!

Thank you. Where do you rename the bookmarks? I have Ubuntu 14.04 and I
went to Nautilus. on the side there are bookmarks. I right press on them
and press rename and change their names do not change in the Places & Files
indicator 0.5.8
it shows the original name of the directory not the renamed name of the
bookmark.

it would be good to sort the bookmarks in the same way they are sorted in
Nautilus

Jacob have you had a chance to address this? It would be so much more convenient on Ubuntu 14.04 if the Files and Places bookmarks appeared exactly in the same way as the way they are organized on Nautilus. Does it now draw the organization from one of the other file browsers?

This is what is listed in my .congif.gtk3 bookmarks file

file:///home/h3/Documents Documents
file:///home/h3/Downloads Downloads
file:///home/h3/Pictures Pictures
file:///home/h3/Videos Videos
file:///home/h3/Music Music
file:///home/h3/Network%20Scanner
...
file:///home/h3/.config/tint2 tint2 .config Home2
file:///home/h3/.cache/thumbnails thumbnails
file:///etc/menu menu etc
file:///home/h3/scripts scripts home username myscripts

However in the Files and Places Menu indicator it starts with

menu
thumbnails
tint2
scripts
...

not only does it not organize them in the same way as they are organized in that file - but it also does not use the second name that I gave it but uses the original folder name.

I have no idea why it is sorting it this way - as its not alphabetical, and its not based on the original date of the creation of the bookmarks. Maybe it is based on the location of the folder in the file system? but it should be sorted the same way it is sorted in the config - gtk3 bookmarks files. and it should use the new "rename" name and not the original name of the folder as it does now.
