Bug Description

I see a patch in debian/patches specifically to fix this. Is it failing to be applied?

Rebuilding the source package failed, but succeeded if I switch to gcc-3.4, in which case the problem disappears (or at least is so much less severe that the system is usable while downloading). To duplicate, select 200 or so items in a binary group and save articles.

I'll let you know after my nntp bandwidth quota gets reset on Monday. I'm using amd64 now, so I dunno if the problem will be apparent even if it exists, but I'll update this bug as soon as I know something.

It's not as bad on my new system, which has a few more cpu cycles to waste, but there's definitely a big spike in cpu usage that can't be accounted for by what pan ought to be doing in these situations.

I can't reproduce the problem on amd64, which is all I have anymore, so I'm going to get rid of this bug report.
