Bug Description

Steps to reproduce:
1. Navigate to some package - for example BleachBit ( https://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/bleachbit )
2. Click on "[ Source: bleachbit ]" ( https://packages.ubuntu.com/source/xenial/bleachbit )
3.1. Try to view the source code from right panel:

   "Links for bleachbit"
     "Ubuntu Resources:"
        "Debian Source Repository" = https://anonscm.debian.org/viewsvn/python-apps/packages/bleachbit/trunk/
       (Subversion) = svn://anonscm.debian.org/python-apps/packages/bleachbit/trunk/

Here clicking on the HTTPS link produces 404 error.
Also here running `svn co svn://anonscm.debian.org/python-apps/packages/bleachbit/trunk/` produces error:

svn: E170013: Unable to connect to a repository at URL 'svn://anonscm.debian.org/python-apps/packages/bleachbit/trunk'
svn: E000101: Can't connect to host 'anonscm.debian.org': Network is unreachable

3.2. Try to view the source code from bottom part of page:

"Debian Package Source Repository (VCS: Subversion)
       svn://anonscm.debian.org/python-apps/packages/bleachbit/trunk/
    Debian Package Source Repository (Browsable)
       https://anonscm.debian.org/viewsvn/python-apps/packages/bleachbit/trunk/
    "

  and get the same errors.

Expected result:

* user is able to view package sources online.

Actual result:

* user is unable to view package sources online.

Notes:

1. The launchpad code repositories do not contain packages for new versions - they contain only 14.04 (trusty) sources - https://code.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bleachbit/+branches
2. Searching on http://codesearch.debian.net/ went to https://sources.debian.org/src/bleachbit/ but here we can see package versions which are not related to current versions of Ubuntu.

With FreeMat source package I see another type of links:

Trusty - https://packages.ubuntu.com/source/trusty/freemat - http://git.debian.org/?p=debian-science/packages/freemat.git
Bionic, Cosmic and Disco have https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/debian-science/packages/freemat.git .

So the problem is wider than shown before.

FYI apt-related part is reported as bug 1812577 and bug 1812564 .

Rhonda D'Vine (rhonda) wrote :

Packages get updated and their source moved. Within Debian, the old git hosting infrastructure got replaced by the gitlab instance on https://salsa.debian.org/. Given that there is not really a default schema where/how packages moved, redirects aren't an option. Older packages in the pool don't get updated for that, and only updated packages have current information again. Thus this is a wontfix or rather "will-fix-itself-over-time".

Changed in pkg-website:
status: New → Won't Fix
