Screencasting support

Initiating a screencast and automatically importing the recorded vido should be easy.

Many apps provide recording functionality of the whole screen, one application, or a selected area. It would make sense to integrate with one of those:

 * gnome-shell's built-in recording tool
 * Kazam https://launchpad.net/kazam
 * Eidete https://launchpad.net/eidete

Unfortunately, she is not planned for the 1.20 version than we are working currently and certainly not for the 1.3.0. Perhaps, after.

Hmm with the soon to be released gnome 3, a screencasting tool is integrated into the shell, maybe we should just provide some integration with it ?

I believe not. what with all the KDE/GNOME2/other users? even Ubuntu won't
run GNOME3 as default.

I am not agree too for the same reason. We will be limited only at Gnome3 and If I remember well Unity will replace Gnome3 which not be by default. Openshot is for all the GTK environment and same in KDE so I think that it is not really a good idea.
When I have done the tests in February (of the last year : already :) ) with ffmpeg (and validate it ), it was for not depending of another thing like another librairy or an environment.

Very nice his vision, better that i was having imagine.

I would like to add this functionality eventually, but I don't have time currently. Maybe once we have our own video editing library for OpenShot, this would be easier to add in.

Hi all,

First, I have just discovered today OpenShot (0.9.34 on ubuntu jaunty) , and i love it :) Thanks all for your hard work.

Here some ideas for openshot, to use it easily for screencasting.

- as Kdenlive, maybe integrate recordmydesktop in Openshot ?

- as Lives, it can be a good idea when you click on a window that you want to screencast, the window appear in Lives itself. However Lives can't record the mouse pictures.

- With Kdenlive you can record the whole screen, or a part of the screen. If you want to record a part of the screen you have to put manually the window's data (position, width...). It can be a good idea to include also the possibility to click on the window that you want to record (something as that : recordmydesktop -windowid $( xwininfo -frame | awk '/window id:/ {print $4}' ) , but i don't know why, this command don't function actually on my pc).

- more great, you offer to the user the possibility to define the size that he will want record (for example 640x480), and after he click on the window that he want to record, and OpenShot resize this window, and record it with recordmydesktop. Maybe the use of xwit can be useful for that ? For example : xwit -resize 630 451 -move 10 30 -select will resize the window in 640x480. I don't know why it seems that there is a difference between "-resize value" and the real value resized.

- For the project type, it will be great that we can personalize the values (for exemple now it seems that I can't use OpenShot because i don't know how can I have a 15fps for doing screencast).

- It maybe useful to add this project type :

Screencast 4/3 Normal (or 640x480)
Frame width: 640
Frame height: 480
Aspect ratio : 4:3
fps : 15
Progressive : Yes

Screencast 16/9 HD (or 1280x720)
Frame width: 1280
Frame height: 720
Aspect ratio : 16/9

What do you think about this feature requests ?
