Bug Description

The last time I played a sky.com movie was last week - all was ok - not sure what changed - maybe the newest version of firefox installed (firefox 31 upgraded to firefox 32)?

Since trying last night, I cannot play - the plugin appears to visually initialise but the moview is not displayed - the play button just remains in a "click me" state - nothing happens when clicking

I'm on Ubuntu 14.04

I've tried the following:

rm -rf ~/.wine-pipelight
sudo pipelight-plugin --create-mozilla-plugins

launched firefox and waited until the silverlight 5.0 installer does its stuff.
logged into sky and tried again - no joy.

Any ideas?

 pipelight-plugin --system-check attached

pipelight-plugin --list-enabled-all
silverlight5.0

firefox &> pipelight.log separately attached

Is it possible that the User Agent needs to be set to a particular Firefox version for this website?

hmm

I downloaded the firefox addon User Agent Override.

I tried the different firefox user agents - they didnt make any difference - i.e. still not working. The user agent is working because when I use the android user agent, the website thinks I'm using an android.

I've disabled and enabled silverlight 5.1. Again - no joy - just the same observation. I've gone back to silverlight 5.0 - again not working.

I tested that silverlight is installed ok via these two sites - both work

http://web.sldrm.video.msn.com/d1/sldrm.html
http://bubblemark.com/silverlight2.html

I've uploaded to imgur a screenshot - as you can see - silverlight looks like its enabled - just nothing is playing

Is there anymore debugging I can switch on to find out what is going on?

I would suspect that this is similar to the problem in 1366965 and caused by dropping one specific workaround for broken Intel drivers in wine-compholio in 1.7.25 and greater.

Can you try to disable GPU acceleration by running:

/usr/share/pipelight/scripts/configure-silverlight

and then type "disable" and "abort" to disable it. Does this make a difference?

The reason why we dropped it, was that we were no longer able to reproduce it in a test environment. Are all your graphic card drivers up-to-date?

Regards,
Sebastian

Thanks Sebastian for getting back to me.

I've tried disabling via configure-silverlight. However no joy. I also included a reboot as well to double check. No joy.

I'm using stock Ubuntu 14.04 intel drivers

[PIPELIGHT:WIN:silverlight5.0] OpenGL Vendor: Intel Open Source Technology Center
[PIPELIGHT:WIN:silverlight5.0] OpenGL Renderer: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Ironlake Mobile x86/MMX/SSE2
[PIPELIGHT:WIN:silverlight5.0] Your GPU is in the whitelist, hardware acceleration should work.

as an aside, I see the following error when running configure-silverlight

any thoughts? Should I raise a separate bug?

/usr/share/pipelight/scripts/configure-silverlight
wine: cannot find L"C:\\windows\\system32\\winemenubuilder.exe"
err:wineboot:ProcessRunKeys Error running cmd L"C:\\windows\\system32\\winemenubuilder.exe -a -r" (2)

Silverlight hardware acceleration is currently disabled in the registry.

looking at firefox addons and checking if my silverlight is reported correctly.

I can see that it is linked to the silverlight5.0.so file - so good.

However, silverlight is reported to be the older version 5.1.20513.0

The current latest version available released in July this year is 5.1.30514.0

I tried copying the pipelight file config and changing the fakeversion = entry to this latest version - this didnt make any difference. Anything else do I need to do to convince firefox that it is seeing a later silverlight version whilst still actually using the older silverlight installation?

cd ~/.config
cp /usr/share/pipelight/configs/pipelight-silverlight5.0 .

ok - running sudo pipelight-plugin --create-mozilla-plugins fixes the firefox plugin version - however, sky movies still doesnt work.

Strange - Sky News Live also on the same website (sky.com) - works correctly - it is also using silverlight. Must be some sort of DRM issue possible? i.e. the live silverlight stream possibly doesnt use DRM whereas sky movies does.

Well - firefox has just been updated from version 32 to version 33 and guess what... all is working now.

So - in conclusion - this was a firefox v32 specific issue that has disappeared with v33.
