Bug Description

This isn't a big issue but I thought I would bring it up and see what happens. I Just got a Chrome Caster (it is Awesome) but when watching netflix with pipelight on the Chromium browser I don't have the option to "cast to the TV" as I would on a windows machine.
I don't have a clue how it all works but I would be happy to help where I can. Just let me know what you need.

-Archlinux
-Gnome Desktop (3.8)
-Silverlight 5.1.20513.0

Hi,

I don't own such a device and I do not know how the system works or which information chrome needs to "cast" the silverlight application. Is there some way to test it without actually having such a device or is this chrome addon also compatible with other devices? I am not sure whether this is a fault of Pipelight or of if the plugin simply doesn't work as it does not expect Silverlight to be available on linux.

I don't think that it works with any other device. The Chrome caster extension does work with other sites like youtube on linux but like I said I don't have a clue how it interfaces with silverlight. Anyway thank you for the response. Pipelight is awesome. I'll try to do some reasearch from my end and post if I learn anything.

Hi,

I played a bit around with the google cast extension and figured out a way to use the extension without a chromecast device. There is an app in the google store called cheap cast which emulates a chrome cast device on a normal android smartphone/tablet. I was able to test it with an android VM in virtualbox and youtube, but I can not test it with Silverlight since the only supported website using Silverlight is Netflix which is not available in my country. I don't have much experience with the device or the extension but I wonder if click on casting the tab wouldn't have the same result? Sadly cheap cast doesn't support this, so I can not test it on my own, but this may work in your case. What happens if you try to cast a tab with netflix?

PS: Chromecast works with Flash through Pipelight

I tried to cast a tab playing netflix but I get an error saying that the content is not supported. The help link that it gave me took me to this little explanation-

"projection but no audio/video

If you can cast a tab and the page shows on your TV but the video and/or audio isn't playing, this is typically caused by the use of native plug-ins, such as Silverlight or Quicktime, which are not supported."

Perhaps needless to say, I did not get any video.

I am sorry I can't be of more help. I just don't know the first thing about this stuff.

Thanks

I have the same issue with Chromecast and Netflix, originally the problem I had was Netflix not working with Chrome, then I got around that with the "Spoof and Mimic" extension, but this caused a problem when launching gmail, I got around that by setting up the extension to switch back to default when loading gmail. Now the problem is with Chromecast, as soon as I try to load content, Chromecast closes the connection and reports that the native version of Silverlight is not compatible. Any help would be welcome.
