Non-English fonts can't be displayed in Pinta

I have opened LibreOffice v3.5.3 on Windows XP and click on Fonts drop-down menu. Then I have opened Pinta v1.3 on Windows XP and compare the fonts. I have found out that Pinta is unable to display non-English fonts. The "squares" are displayed instead of real text.

Beside this there is also font "Symbol" in LibreOffice where Greeks characters are displayed like: alpha, beta,... but this font is not even displayed in Pinta. But I suspect if it is displayed, it would probably not be displayed correctly.

Possibly a Windows-only issue? I don't notice this on Ubuntu (12.04).

I have checked on Pinta latest development on Ubuntu 12.04 and I see no font with squares. But the fonts that are problematic on Windows I don't have on Ubuntu, so I don't know if this is really Windows specific.

Pinta v1.4 on Windows XP. Squares instead of characters are still displayed in some of the fonts just like in bug report and #1.

I also copied Tunga font (tunga.ttf) from Windows XP to Ubuntu 12.04, installed the font on Ubuntu and run Pinta. Pinta v1.4 on Ubuntu 12.04 displays Tunga font without a problem. So it looks like Windows specific problem.

I have retested this problem pinta-1.5-preview-20130518 on Windows XP and this problem does NOT appear anymore. Maybe related to Gtk# upgrade?

Yeah, those fonts are displaying ok for me on Windows as well, so it's likely from the GTK# upgrade for Pinta 1.5
