Saving as a different type doesn't change the extension automatically

Bug #722045 reported by Shrimp on 2011-02-20
This bug affects 2 people
Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone

Bug Description

1. Open pic (image.png)
2. File --->Save as...
3. In dropdown list for image types, change it to jpg
4. Filename is still image.png and will save as such until you manually change it into image.jpg

What OS are you testing on? When I change the image type, the filename is completely cleared.

Probably not the ideal behavior, but that's the one provided by Gtk.

I can reproduce the same problem as Shrimp on Pinta 0.6 Windows XP sp3 / Ubuntu 10.10. Name field is not cleared and also file type is not changed from png to jpg. Actually changing file type nothing happens. When Save button is clicked the info appears: "A file image.png already exists. Do you want to replace it?"

It would be nice when changing file type from image.png in name field it appears image.jpg.

Just a note, I have tested this bug using Pinta 0.8 on Windows XP and I can still reproduce a bug using first post of this bug report.
