Bug Description

Pinta 2.1.1:
1. Click on Text and then click on canvas.
2. Type in something.
3. Press <Shift>+<Left Arrow Key>.
Text is selected and I can copy it. Works as expected.

On Windows 11 I have downloaded Pinta 2.2-development from master repository from Github/Actions for Windows.
Repeat steps 1-3 from above.
PROBLEM: At last step, nothing happens. I can't select text and obviously can copy it.
EXPECTED: I can select text and then copy it.

Hmm, this worked okay for me testing the latest development installer on Windows (in a VM with Windows 10).
Is there anything similar to #2070032 happening where the focus has been grabbed by another widget?

Changed in pinta:
milestone: none → 2.2

No, this issue is not grabbed by another widget.

I did additional tests. Typed in some text, pressed <Shift>+<Left Arrow> and <Ctrl>+C and I can paste the text to e.g. text editor.

It looks like what does not work is just marking selected text with greyed colour. Now it looks like only cursor has moved, just like I clicked only <Left Arrow>.

---

Additional test with <Ctrl>+A and text is also not visible to me selected with greyed color, cursor just stays at the end of input field. Pressing <Ctrl>+C and then paste to e.g. text editor works fine. It looks the same, text is just not visible to be selected, but it actually is.

---

I have tested this with latest master (downloaded Github/Actions) on two of my Windows 11 computers with exactly the same effect.

Thanks, so to clarify it's just the visualization of the selection that's not working?
And do you remember this working previously in any 2.2 development builds, to help narrow things down? It's possible something also changed with the GTK libraries we bundle with Pinta

Yes, it is only visualization problem, that is my latest findings.

I am pretty sure I have seen this in previous 2.2-development builds. I have not used 2.2-development very much until last few weeks, because on Windows my Pinta was crashing randomly and frequently and I have lost to many work to continue using it, so I reverted back to 2.1.1 like few mounts ago. Now I am back to 2.2-dev again on Windows 11 and now when I use it day to day I spot problems more frequently.

Current issue is not super important problem, just tiny annoyance, because I copy text from Pinta to some other program very infrequently. Probably this issue can be set with lower priority.

Thanks, I'll see if I can get a Windows 11 VM set up to reproduce this
