Bug Description

Pinta 2.1-development binary from master branch on Ubuntu 22.10.

I don't have exact steps, but quite recently I have noticed that clicking on icons from Tools panel and some times (I can't reproduce exact steps) must be clicked twice to get accepted.

For example I click on Line icon and then on click on Text icon and nothing happens. I click again on Text icon and then it works fine.

This problem appears very random. I can somehow reproduce it clicking on toolbar icons and suddenly no response when clicked.

It is pretty annoying I can't have step-by-step instructions, because it just appears random.

This has got to be pretty recent problem, because I am using Pinta daily and haven't noticed this problem before.

Maybe some library was updated or similar that has this kind of effect or something.

I'll try out some recent distros to see if anything changed in GTK. If you can try Pinta 2.0 and see if it still happens there, that might help to track it down

Maybe this is false report and may not be related to latest Pinta. Yesterday I was working with Pinta a lot, I was required to edit a lot of images, I was in hurry and so probably got into this issue more.

What is happening... Where one icon is ending and another beginning, but there is some small space between them. Mouse icon is already pointing to icon above (it looks like), but maybe it still hits the space between icons. When clicking a lot of times, and being in hurry, mouse pointing to icon is not so precise, I assume it just happens that I accidentally click just in between. And this eventually must happen if icons are clicked like hundreds of time.

To reproduce a problem, it requires a lot of patients. You have to very carefully move mouse from one icon to another icon above it. At just right place, tip of mouse icon it is already pointing to icon above, but has no effect, because I assume it may hits empty space between icons.

Is there something to do, to eliminate this empty space between icons? It would be nice that mouse click would never hit empty space or in case of hitting empty space icon above should be clicked.

Now I have got into a new problem, that is probably related to above one. If clicking hundreds of times then eventually will happen even bellow problem.

1. Maximize Pinta program.
2. Move mouse exactly in small space between two icons in Tools pallet.
3. Double click. Pinta gets out of maximized state to smaller size. Just like if I click on Maximize button from programs title bar (top-right).

This also happens even if I double click on far left of window at any icon. But interesting at bottom (where are no icons) and right site (if both pallets are minimized), then this un-maximize effect does not appear.

The maximize behaviour is probably something standard in GTK or the window manager, so I think all we can do is try to eliminate those couple pixels of padding in between the toolbar buttons. I'm not sure where exactly the padding is coming from, so some investigation is needed
