Bug Description

Frustrating since the field resets each time Pinta is closed.

Something changed at some point as this doesn't match the behavior of the past.

This is on Pinta 2.0.1 from Manjaro's repos

In Pinta 2.0 the dash settings should be remembered after Pinta is closed, along with any other tool settings. So it shouldn't be empty at first unless it was empty when you last closed Pinta?

It does remember it now, but sometimes it would be best if the field could be left empty.

This is because a character like '-' or space will create a broken or buggy line (especially on less gentle bends) and dragging the end-points have to tendency to roll dice whether or not it should awkwardly snap to some random position

A single '-' character should be equivalent to having a normal un-dashed line, but I think it's reasonable to have an empty string draw normally. This might be related to bug 1959032

That sounds reasonable, but it is worth noting they don't seem to experience issues with the line length like I do (perhaps they have not ran into that problem yet)
