"curves tool" and "levels tool" apply outside of selection during preview

Bug Description
When the curves feature is used the preview is not fully constrained to the selection.
It behaves weirdly as areas not selected will get affected a little bit.
Edit: This also happens with the Levels tool.
This is on Pinta 1.7 from official repos for manjaro

I'm wondering if this is just because the window manager dims the main Pinta window while the dialog is open? If you adjust the levels tool to increase the brightness, does that correctly only affect the selection?
