Union Selection Mode does not have dashed lines which Rectangle Select tool

Tested on 1.7+r1122-202007302144~ubuntu18.04.1:

1. From Tools click on Rectangle Select (don't select anything on canvas yet).
2. From Selection Mode toolbar select Union.
3. Mark some selection on canvas. PROBLEM. Only blue small square appear to display selection but there is no dashed lines between them.

Actually I think the problem is that Union does not have many sense to be selected as first selection. It makes sense to be selected as second selection (first to be selected as Selection Mode = Replace and second selection Selection Mode = Union).

It looks to me that if Union is the first selection it should behave just like Replace mode.

I have been testing this even more.

What it does look to me that by default whole canvas is selected and when Union Selection Mode is selected then any selection inside whole canvas is actually union between whole canvas and marked area.

In this case it make sense that blue squares have no dashed lines between. But now I am wondering is it reasonable to have Union as first selection. Maybe Union selection should be hidden and CTRL+Left click disabled until first selection is made. Or if there is no selection Union behaves like Replace for first selection.

Yeah, currently there isn't a clear distinction between having no selection (which implicitly has everything selected when applying tools / effects) versus actually having everything selected.
