Pinta 1.6 crashes on High Sierra after Mono install

Bug Description
This may be a duplicate of a bug reported already for Yosemite (Bug #1429642). I don't know enough about Pinta/Mono to tell whether this is a Pinta or Mono problem.
To Reproduce:
1. Download and unzip Pinta 1.6, and attempt to run it from the download folder. It creashes (or did nothing?)
2. Copy Pinta.app to Applications folder. Attempt to run, see error telling me to install Mono.
3. Click Mono link on Pinta download website on 24-mar-2018 to download Mono. Run .Pkg to install Mono.
4. Attempt to run Pinta again. Which results in the following crash report:
