Bug Description
I after I clicked the Text Icon and started typing the Tool I was using immediately changed.

Please provide more info. It is difficult to help if so small amount of info is provided. For example what happens if you press P key does tool changes to Pencil? Make sure you click on Text tool, click on canvas and pres P. Is P typed in on canvas or did P trigger the move of tool from Text object to Pencil. I remember there were this kind of problems text entering problems years ago.
