Bug Description

hello,
When opening filter dialog, the window is stuck in the center covering the image and cannot be moved in any diretion or onto secondary monitor.
Also, when going up to File, Edit, etc, the cursor changes and points from left to right like old unix cursors.
Both of these are extrememly distracting

thanks

What do you mean by "filter dialog"? I can't find any filter, do you mean effects?
I also can't reproduce the "left to right" cursor...

What is your operating system and version? What is your Pinta version (from Help | About) window? It looks to me you are using some old version or something. If you are using version older then 1.4 then I suggest to download the latest Pinta version from web site: http://www.pinta-project.com/download.ashx and please report if this fix the problem.

Hello again,
I wanted to add that the left to right black cursor is fairly consistent when going up to the File, Edit, etc menus.
Also, grabbing any iof the"effects" dialog windows moves andun maximizes the entire pinta window.
I tried taking screen shots however the left right cursor does not show up. I will try again as well as a short video

I'll mark it as Confirmed since you have a video of the issue.

I'm guessing it's something specific to Gnome Shell (or maybe Ubuntu 13.04), since I don't see either of the issues with Unity on Ubuntu 12.10

hello,
 Thanks Cameron, that makes sense.
I just wanted to bring it to someone's attention before 13.04 is released
thanks again

Hello,
Cameron, I just tested pinta on gnome-fallback, unity, with and without effects.
It seems to be a gnome-shell issue.
I will look in the settings to see if there is something I can do, if so I will report it here
thanks again

Well, apparently there are "no" settings to deal with this issue. It also happens with synaptic package manager, which is no longer default in ubuntu.. With pinta, if I restart gnome-shell, the dialogs act properly for a short period of time, and no black reverse
cursor.

With Gnome Shell on 13.04, I can reproduce the issue with being unable to move dialogs. The cursor appears fine to me, though.

Maybe this is theme specific, I see in video #4 Coz is using some black & white icons, it may be the theme that is changing mouse icons.

@ Coz, did you change a theme? Can you change theme to some other theme, probably the default one, to see if this is theme specific problem.

P.S. I am reversing the status of bug back to New, because Confirmed status is reserved if at least TWO of the users have the same problem (this are the rules of Launchpad). This does not mean that this is not a problem, we can clearly see from video, that problem exists, BUT it can be ONE user system specific. Once I had a nasty problem in one of applications, reporting bug, nobody of bug squad could replicate and finally I found out I had a missing font, but only for italic-font, so this way my one user specific problem.

Hey guys,
I found a solution to the pintia dialog windows in gnome shell

command line

dconf write /org/gnome/shell/overrides/attach-modal-dialogs false

that should take care of it , or,

install dconf-tools
open dconf-editor and maneauver to org.gnome.shell.overrides and untick the "attach-modal-dialogs"

Great, good to hear that there's a solution. Do you still have the other issue with the cursor pointing the wrong way?

I think we can close this since there is a workaround available and this seems to only be an issue with a very old Gnome version.
