When turned on I get no IRC messages

When this plugin is turned on I get no IRC messages. I can send, but can't get ANY.

The debug window says:

There are no more error messages, so I guess this is it.

This bug is already fixed in the current version of the plugin. Please upgrade.

Did you install Pidgin from source or from a repository? In case of the latter: did you use Ubuntus repository or the Pidgin PPA?

I use Ubuntu repos. Should I use PPA instead? I didn't see any "official" PPA.

No, it's supposed to work with both. I just asked to collect information for me to reproduce the problem. I will try that as soon as I can get to it (which is not today, sorry).

FYI: The official PPA is linked here: http://pidgin.im/download/ubuntu/ . It might help to use that as they already have Pidign 2.10.9 and the issue seems to be related to changes I made to resolve incompatibilities with the new version. To be honest I did not test it against older versions...

Ok, I planned to build it from source, as the official site says that there are major change in it. So I think I install PPA now. Or would you like me to remain on this version to be able to test it?

Go for it. From what I see now I should be able to reproduce it easily myself. ;) thank you for the report.

Or it might be that Ubuntu backported the changes that caused the incompatibility from Pidgin 2.10.8 to their version as they are security related, hm. That would explain the issue too.

Further explanation: My plugin is somewhat ugly as it uses structures from Pidgin that are supposed to be internal and thus can be changed by the Pidgin developers without breaking the API. Those structures changed lately in a incompatible way which broke the plugin since Pidgin 2.10.8. I built a patch that chooses on runtime which structure to use based on the version of Pidgin. If Ubuntu backported those changes (which they are allowed as the changes are internal only) that choice might be wrong.

Well, Ubuntu sometimes makes the wrong decision. I installed Pidgin from PPA, and it works no, so my problem solved, but may be still a problem for lots of Pidgin users.
