Scrollbars on every first line in a speech bubble when using default font Sans

Bug Description
Hi, on every speech bubble (there's probably a better term for this) the first line I post has a scrollbar to the right of it. This doesn't happen if I use Courier New though.
The message style I'm using is 'Stockholm Green - Blue.inkscape'. I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 with Pidgin 2.5.4.
