Emacs causes pida process to hang

Bug Description

Ubuntu 8.10
I have chosen vim as the editor and later on I've changed through the preferences to emacs. Now, when I start PIDA the emacs editor starts up. (How can I switch back to vim by the way?) The problem is with the splash screen that freezes in place and stays there even after closing the window. If you start PIDA again you get a second frozen splash screen and so on. On some frozen splash screen the text disappears after a while. The system treats the program like a non responding process and pop us a dialog to choose either to wait or end it's execution.

sounds like the typical missdetection of an emacs thats not cappable of embedding
we cant fix that yet

you can get the editor dialog with pida -F

Changed in pida:
importance: Undecided → Medium
status: New → Triaged

Here's the output of emacs:

command-line-1: Unknown option `--parent-id'

I don't understand - is this a problem special to ubuntu distribution or version of emacs?
A pity - I've been curious at Pida ...

Homer

Preliminary solution for Intrepid-Users (Ubuntu 8.10):
Don't use emacs22 but the emacs-snapshot package.
(You may have to change the preferences for emacs with e.g. galternatives)

This worked for me.

Intrepid version of emacs does not support xembed embedding, which later versions do support.
